March Review- Hartpury FC

A mixed bag of results came the Acorns way during March, but some important responses kept the play-off goal alive, heading into the final month of the season.

Despite suffering two defeats this month, the Acorns remain just four points of the play-off spots in Southern League Div One South.

From a brilliant result against the league leaders to securing three points with just nine-men on the pitch, March had it all, so it’s time to take a look back.

THE NUMBERS

Games: 5 | Won: 2 | Drew: 1 | Lost: 2 | Points: 7/15 | Position: 7th | Scored: 9 | Conceded: 11

HOLDING THE LEADERS

March began with a tricky home test against the title chasing, Frome Town, with both sides heading into the fixture in fine form.

Frome started the game as expected, in front, as the Robins stormed into a 2-0 lead at the break.

But an inspired second half saw the Acorns pull level thanks to goals from Billy Osborn and Noah Coates.

It may have been the slightest of hiccups for the Robins, but it could prove to be a vital point in the Acorns push for play-offs.

COMING BACK AFTER DERAILMENT

The Acorns headed to Didcot Town next but suffered just our second defeat in 2026 but had an instant chance to respond on a Tuesday night in Worcestershire.

A trip to Sporting Club Inkberrow awaited and for the third straight game, the Acorns found themselves 2-0 down.

However, an impressive response followed as a punishing strike from Louis Manning and two sublime finishes from Vanylson Silva, had the Acorns 3-2 up at the break.

The Acorns needed a response and earned it late on when Jesse Aldridge secured all three points to win the game 4-2.

STUMBLING BLOCK

With a win back under our belts, the Acorns returned the 4ED Hartpury Stadium looking to kick on against Falmouth Town.

But, despite a bright start, it was Falmouth who ran out 3-0 winners on the afternoon throwing a spanner in the works for the Acorns.

NINE-MEN, NO PROBLEM

March ended with a trip to an inform Swindon Supermarine, which proved to be a dramatic affair.

With Easter right around the corner, plenty of cards were handed out, with the Acorns receiving eight that afternoon.

A red card midway through the first half saw the Acorns reduced to 10 but responded by taking lead just before half time through Manning.

Supermarine levelled up early in the second half before the Acorns were reduced to nine-men.

But moments later, Manning troubled the Spitfires’ defence enough to see the Acorns retake the lead and secure a massive three points to close up the month.

The final month of the season commences on Easter weekend, starting with a match-up with Bideford AFC at the 4ED, on Friday.
