Hannah studied an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Land-based Studies at Hartpury so that she could then go on to succeed at undergraduate level.
Hannah’s Hartpury Experience
“A lot of the people that were specifically in my year were mature students who had got their GCSEs and A levels and then gone ‘I want to have a family or I want to go do this with my life’, and later on said, ‘I really think this degree is important’.
Modules were taught by one of Hartpury’s Agriculture lecturers, which was fantastic because rather than treating us like we were in Further Education, she expected us to be working at the level of higher education. Hartpury access was really key to my success. I think it’s developed me as a person.”
Developing Industry Connections
"Once you get to that undergraduate level, you can succeed and be on par with everybody else, if not ahead, because you already know how Hartpury works. Getting on track with what is expected of you at undergraduate level was definitely one of the key parts of the course.
In my subsequent Integrated Masters in Equine Science, I chose to explore a new therapeutic method using technology provided by Hartpury that measures the muscle’s action potential. In the future I'd like to go into fulltime lecturing. I also have plans to get my PhD.”
