Members of the Hartpury University Clay Shooting Club, supported by the Hartpury Agricultural Society and Hartpury Polo Club, have raised £1,285 for Yellow Wellies during the charity’s 8th annual Mind Your Head week.
The Mind Your Head campaign continues to raise awareness of the various challenges facing the UK’s farming industry, breaking down the stigma attached to poor mental health.
Local companies and club sponsors generously donated prizes that were included in a special raffle at the Hartpury Acorn Ball. Additionally, they donated £5 from each ticket sold for the ball, contributing to the final total.
The event was meticulously organised by the club's chair Rosalie Derricott-Stell (BSc (Hons) Equine Business Management), Secretary Alisha Raines (BSc (Hons) Equine Business Management), and treasurer Maddie Julian (BSc (Hons) Equestrian Sports Science), who managed everything from the venue and caterers, through to sponsors and donations.
Yellow Wellies kindly supported the event by providing merchandise for the guests. Hartpury student Joshua Atha (BSc (Hons) Sports Business Management) also volunteered his DJ services for the night.
The selection of Yellow Wellies as the club’s chosen charity is particularly notable given Hartpury University and College’s significant contribution to raising awareness around mental health in farming. Last year, the institution featured as part of a special BBC Countryfile episode during Mental Health Awareness Week as well as students and staff contributing to the industry’s Keeping on Track wellbeing podcast.
Hartpury students are all automatically part of its Students’ Union, having access to social events, sports and societies for a range of different interests. In addition, the Students’ Union can also provide individuals with opportunities to get involved in charity work, volunteering, employability support, campaigning and representing the student voice.
