Uniformed Protective Services (UPS) students at Hartpury College were recently put through their paces by the Royal Marines Education and Awareness Team (EAT), taking part in a unique and demanding fitness and nutrition experience.
In a first-of-its-kind session for colleges across the UK, the Royal Marines delivered a replica fitness selection event that mirrors the first day of the Commando Training Centre’s Candidate Preparation Course. The students tackled a range of optional physical assessments, designed to test their strength, endurance, and teamwork – skills essential for careers in the armed forces and other uniformed services.
Before the physically challenging session, students were invited to learn more about the Royal Marines through the medium of healthy eating and food.
Nick Collins, Lecturer in Uniformed Protective Services at Hartpury College said: “We’re incredibly proud to be one of the first colleges to host this kind of immersive session with the Royal Marines. It provided our students with valuable insight into the expectations and standards of military training, while also equipping them with practical life skills in fitness and nutrition. This kind of experience is exactly what sets Hartpury apart.”
This visit forms part of Hartpury College’s wider commitment to providing real-world, career-relevant opportunities for its UPS students, who regularly engage with multi-agency training exercises, community service partners, and professional organisations from across the sector.
Hartpury College continues to lead the way in preparing students for successful futures in the police, fire, military and emergency services – combining expert instruction with opportunities to apply their learning in real-life scenarios.
