Faces of agriculture

Wonga Matubatuba

I am Wonga Matubatuba from Johannesburg, South Africa.

Johannesburg is one of the biggest cities in South Africa, growing up here I spent my weekends playing sports and meeting up with friends. For me, ‘home’ was my grandmother’s house where my sibling and I would meet up with the rest of my family on holiday. It was during this time I had exposure to Agriculture as my gran's house is on a farm in the rural areas. Unfortunately, those moments would be short lived however they helped me realise my passion for Agriculture.

I currently study a BSc Agriculture degree and am currently in my third year doing a work placement. I chose this degree at Hartpury after being offered a Rugby scholarship there. I thought an Agriculture degree would really uplift my farming knowledge and help me back home commercially. The opportunity to study at Hartpury has allowed me to stand out from my peers and explore a new country.
