As well as its expertise in agricultural industry, Maggie chose Hartpury for its rural location, farm facilities, and extensive career support. She now works as a Finance Manager at Anglo Beef Processors (ABP) Food Group, an international organisation with over 50 sites across the UK, Ireland and Europe and supplies products to over 60 major retailers and wholesalers.
"Getting promoted to Finance Manager after just 18 months of working as an assistant couldn't have happened without the experience that Hartpury facilitated. My growing self-confidence, independence and resilience were nurtured by my lecturers.
Learning elements of this land-based subject online during lockdown taught me about the importance of adaptability. I still see the fruits of that at work, where no two days are the same. Although I work in finance, the knowledge I acquired at university gives me an edge. Consequently, I’m able to make informed and rational judgements based on knowledge beyond just numbers, such as predicting fluctuations in the lamb supply market.
I felt a strong sense of belonging and community at Hartpury. The opportunity to learn from numerous professionals during field trips was particularly useful in understanding different ways of doing things. Being a student at Hartpury gave me a wide-ranging understanding of the industry that I may not otherwise have had the opportunity to develop.”
