A First-Class Honours Sports Business Management graduate, Emily Tate is currently working as an Events and Marketing Executive at GP Management, a company specialising in corporate experience and adventures.
“I was just sixteen when my parents dropped me off at Hartpury College with my horse Remy. It was a really big thing for me to leave my Sussex home to study and have sole responsibility of the care of my horse before and after lecturers - but I just knew Hartpury would be a good fit for us both, and I was right.
In my first year, I really had no idea about where my studies might take me. My love of horses almost took me down an Equine Management path, but after studying a module on sport and social media, I could see different avenues within the sports industry opening up before my eyes and so I continued my Hartpury studies by enrolling on a BSc (Hons) Sports Business Management degree.
I spent the next three years immersing myself in the business side of sport, studying events, sponsorship and entrepreneurship and loved every minute of it. I firmly believe I did better at Hartpury than I would have done at a larger, city-based university. The smaller class sizes and more one-to-one teaching support suited my style of learning.
I started following GP Management, a company offering luxury events and corporate hospitality and entertainment packages for F1 sponsors and consumers on Instagram. When I saw they were offering a three-month internship, I quickly applied and started working for them in September last year, a post which has subsequently become full-time, working in their London office.
It’s funny where life takes you…
Last year whilst working part-time at the White Company, I was sad to miss the final F1 race, but fast forward a year and I’m in Abu Dhabi supporting a hospitality event with Lewis Hamilton.”
