Meet the outreach team

Emma Bartlett

Outreach and Student Recruitment Manager

I oversee Hartpury’s outreach and recruitment to ensure we engage with a wide range of students from schools, colleges and training providers across the UK. With the support of the two Outreach Officers, I ensure the successful delivery of all innovative activities and organise our calendar of events whilst building relationships with those providers. This includes UCAS fairs, subject enrichment activities, taster days, campus tours and industry/sector events. I also manage Hartpury’s involvement in our UniConnect funded partnership, GROWS, working with other local education providers and schools to increase student progression to higher education.

Andrew Graham

Senior Outreach Officer - Widening Participation

I work with local schools delivering activities aimed at encouraging young people to find out more about higher education. This includes working with under-represented students and supporting them to consider higher education as a future option. I deliver events both on-campus and in the local community, including workshops, presentations and interactive information sessions. I also represent Hartpury at career fairs, parent’s evenings and UCAS events.

Freya Heath

Outreach Officer - Student Recruitment

I work with various schools across the UK, offering insight into life at Hartpury and the courses available, as well as answering any questions a prospective student or parent may have about their next steps. I represent Hartpury at a variety of events, including UCAS Fairs, career fairs and mock interviews, as well as arranging individual campus tours and taster days on campus. I also manage the student ambassador scheme, which aims to ensure that we can offer a “student perspective” throughout our events. I was a Hartpury University student myself, thoroughly enjoying my time, so I love to go out and share my own experiences and knowledge of student life here.

Outreach subject coordinators

University academics

We also have the support of four specialist outreach coordinators who are all university lecturers at Hartpury University. They can provide sessions in their subject area to allow students to experience outstanding university facilities, subject lectures including dissections and be taught by academic lecturers on topics outside of the school curriculum.

Phil Watson

Agriculture outreach coordinator

After 25 years working in the dairy industry as a herdsman and herd manager, I began teaching in 2010 and have been here at Hartpury since 2015. I teach a range of subjects from economics through to farm business management and the importance of one health and social licence in the agricultural industry. My research interests revolve around dairy cow welfare and performance, calf rearing, farm business sustainability and mental health in agriculture, particularly the impact of working with livestock on farmer and farm worker wellbeing.

I teach across a range of modules from health and disease and epidemiology, and conservation biology and wildlife conflict. My interests are in conservation and how to get people involved with conservation through citizen science and human wildlife coexistence. I have taken students to south Africa and run UK based trips for students to experience conservation first hand in various environments.

Student ambassadors

We have a diverse and experienced team of student ambassadors, both college and university, who work closely with the outreach team and support a number of events throughout the year. These include campus tours and open events, career fairs, workshops and presentations at local schools and colleges, and UCAS fairs. We believe students should be at the heart of everything and you will be able to hear first-hand from their experiences including what it’s like to study and live at Hartpury.
